Finding the right clothing for horse shows

There are a lot of things you can do if you want to look your best at a horse show. There’s no doubt that if you want to win, you must be able to ride. But, what happens when you put in a great performance, and there is someone else who puts in an equally good performance? What do the judges look at? They base their decision not just on how the horse looks, but also on how the rider looks.

Killer looks

The first question you need to answer is whether you buy off the shelf, or go for something custom made. You need to work hard if you want to get that unique look. If you are showing locally, you could shop online to ensure no one who shops from local retailers would pick up the same things that you do. If you have invested and want to compete nationally or regionally, you should consider getting custom outfits. These may cost more, but they might just end up being the difference between winning and coming in second.

Test your outfit

The next thing you need to do is ensure the clothing you buy fits properly. Getting clothes that fit poorly isn’t just unflattering, but is also unsafe. Clothes which are very loose may get caught in the stirrups or reins. If your clothes are too tight, they will limit movement. Even your horse will respond better when you’re comfortable. If you can’t afford such clothes, shop around to find the right fit.

Lastly, make sure you choose the right fabric which doesn’t just look nice but is also durable. This will ensure you can use the same clothes for multiple shows. It might cost you a little more initially, but you will end up saving by the end of it.
